Volunteer Opportunities
In an effort to try to keep The Doheny State Beach Interpretive
Center open seven days a week, there is always a need for qualified
volunteers. With many varied duties, this is an exciting and
fulfilling position.
Volunteer duties include meeting and greeting the public,
interpreting marine life, assisting customers in the gift shop
and working the cash register. In addition, you may be asked to
assist with aquarium maintenance and other housekeeping chores.

SUMMER VOLUNTEER PROGRAM FOR JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
This volunteer position will host visitors at the Doheny State Beach
Interpretive Center. The program is designed for 12 to 16 year olds.
Summer volunteers are expected to volunteer for one four-hour shift each
week of the summer.
Shifts are from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to
5:30 p.m. Every other week volunteers are assigned a Saturday or
Sunday - our busiest days.
A volunteer planning vacation time may make arrangements with
another volunteer to substitute during the vacation absence. There
are also opportunities to volunteer for the Junior Ranger program
each weekday morning with one of Doheny's Park Rangers.
The duties for the summer volunteer program are the same
as those described above for general volunteers.
BENEFITS
- During the summer several ocean orientated field trips may be
earned by a volunteer. In the past, field trips have included
places like Sea World, the Aquarium of the Pacific, and snorkeling at
Catalina Island.
- Volunteers will be given a tee shirt and name badge.
- Your volunteer hours will be totaled, and you will be give
a letter which can be used for future jobs and positions requiring
an application.
- In addition, your family will have free beach parking all
summer at Doheny when you are in the car.

Campground Host
In addition to the summer volunteer program, the
volunteer position of Campground Host is an important part
of the Doheny State Beach Visitor Center. Campground Hosts
greet the public, provide general information, and
help operate the gift store. During the summer, duties
also include helping to train and oversee summer
volunteers.
In addition to performing assigned duties, the
park staff is interested in any special experience,
skills or talents Campground Hosts might want to contribute
to the daily operation of the Visitor Center.
Full hookup sites are available for Campground Hosts in
the campground. Sites are assigned on a first-come,
first-served basis. Phone service is not available.
