Volunteer Opportunities

IMPORTANT NOTE: There will be no summer volunteer program at Doheny State Beach this summer (2009) due to the indefinite closure of the Visitor's Center. Our goal is to continue the volunteer program next summer (2010) providing the Visitor's Center is reopened by then. Please contact us in the Spring of 2010 at (949) 496-2704 to check the status at that time. Thank you for your interest in supporting the California State Parks. Our incredible volunteers are a valuable resource, especially during these challenging budgetary times. Be aware there are opportunities throughout the year for one-day volunteer projects and you can check our Events Page for additional information.

In an effort to try to keep The Doheny State Beach Interpretive Center open seven days a week, there is always a need for qualified volunteers. With many varied duties, this is an exciting and fulfilling position.

Volunteer duties include meeting and greeting the public, interpreting marine life, assisting customers in the gift shop and working the cash register. In addition, you may be asked to assist with aquarium maintenance and other housekeeping chores.

To volunteer or obtain more information, call (949) 496-2704 and leave a voicemail message on our volunteer hot line.

SUMMER VOLUNTEER PROGRAM FOR JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
This volunteer position will host visitors at the Doheny State Beach Interpretive Center. The program is designed for 12 to 16 year olds. Summer volunteers are expected to volunteer for one four-hour shift each week of the summer.

Shifts are from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Every other week volunteers are assigned a Saturday or Sunday - our busiest days.

A volunteer planning vacation time may make arrangements with another volunteer to substitute during the vacation absence. There are also opportunities to volunteer for the Junior Ranger program each weekday morning with one of Doheny's Park Rangers.

The duties for the summer volunteer program are the same as those described above for general volunteers.
